Buying Gold
I’m a new gold buyer, but I’ve already learned a few things. Here are some ideas that’ll make the process smoother and hopefully more profitable.
1. Buy gold from a reputable seller and see how you can sell it back to them.
2. Buy gold in a state with no sales tax. Some states eliminate sales tax on larger gold purchases. Some companies won’t charge you sales tax if you purchase gold in one state and have it delivered to a state without sales tax.
3. Buy gold before it increases in value.
4. Remember to calculate shipping costs with insurance when you think about your gold’s value. To get the most for it you’ll need to ship it to a major seller like JM Bullion, APMEX or SD Bullion. An insured package with $5,000 of gold costs about $100 to ship.
5. Write down how much you paid before and after tax and when you bought it. Record how much gold was valued per ounce that day. It’ll make it easy to see when it makes a profit.
6. Make sure there are no errors when you enter your financial information and address into a website to buy gold. If you make a mistake you could lose your money for weeks and need to fight to get it back. They have overly sensitive fraud sensors that actually prevent some legitimate buyers from buying gold.
7. Forget silver if you’re trying to make money. Silver increases in value very slowly, so buy some if you like how it looks. I imagine I’ll need to wait a decade to break even on the silver I bought, but I didn’t buy it as an investment. Silver is more like art. Enjoy it for as long as you want, then sell it back and make 75% of its value or hopefully more.
8. Some small gold bars are overpriced, but most bars are incrementally priced based on their weight. Be careful to avoid paying extra for a small gold bar by accident. When they buy back bars they don’t care which company you bought it from if it’s on their list.
9. One gold seller that I spoke to about buying my gold bars said it didn’t matter that I opened the packages. In other words there doesn’t appear to be a price difference whether you keep it in the plastic or open it and touch it probably because they must remove it from the plastic to test it for purity anyway.
10. Allow plenty of time to get your gold. It can take a full week just for them to approve your payment, then another week or two for them to deliver it.
11. Gold shipments can get lost in the mail even when they’re shipped to a Post Office box. When that happens you fill out an affidavit and get it notarized saying you’ll relinquish the gold if it ever arrives, then they send you replacement gold.
12. Consider getting a magnifying glass and a case for your gold. They sell cases with grids that’ll accommodate bars and coins.
13. Get on some gold sellers’ mailing lists. Sometimes they discount gold or at least notify people when it’s high or low.
14. Ask local jewelers if they’ll buy your gold. They tend to pay less, but if you find a good deal and have a lot of gold to sell it could be cheaper because you won’t have to pay for shipping or insurance.
15. Pay for gold with your bank account or debit card. If you use a credit card they charge you more for it.
16. Keep track of gold’s value on a website like this one.
Hawaii Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
Aloha,
In the state of Hawaii, medical marijuana patients get a 329 card from a medical cannabis doctor and then they’re allowed to legally buy up to 8 ounces of pot a month. After the first year patients can renew their card for 1 or 2 years.
Here are the eight companies that sell marijuana across the islands now. Some of them have several dispensaries and sell on multiple islands. I’ve been to Aloha Green Apothecary in Waikiki, Big Island Grown in Hilo, Kona and Wailmea and Hawaiian Ethos in Hilo and they’re all good.
Support the legalization of recreational marijuana. This medical system is ok, but it’s too expensive for many people and others don’t want to admit they have a health ailment or register with the government. Also, many people in Hawaii like to grow marijuana (legally and illegally), but very few do it very well.

Delicious Organic Tea Blend
If you only have the time or money to try one new tea this year try this one. It’s tasty, organic and you won’t need to buy mint or Yerba mate tea if you do. The minty spearmint goes well with Yerba mate too.
When I bought this tea from The Tao of Tea I knew they sold great teas because I bought their organic rooibos tea and it was great. It might cost slightly more than the cheaper brands, but favor is worth it.
EBT’s Organic Food on Amazon
Do you get EBT? Do you want the most affordable, healthy food that you can find? Would you like it delivered to your doorstep for free? If so, you may want to try Amazon.com.
Amazon takes EBT cards and sells the following organic foods and drinks, etc. Some of their deals are great and you can save more with their 15% off specials and their 5% subscriber discounts.
Using your EBT card on Amazon is easy. It’s just like a credit or debit card to them. However, they make users type their PIN each time, but they also give you your current balance.
Pro tips: When you seek organic food on Amazon there are two ways to make it easier. 1) After you type organic in the search bar tick the SNAP EBT Eligible box on the left to show only those products (although it’ll show others too). 2) Look for the words SNAP EBT Eligible on product pages toward the middle of the page to know if the product qualifies or not.
